Settling somewhere between impressionism and realism, his work is a dedication to his sensory perception and his overall visual and textural experience. His attitude to oil painting is a no-frills approach. Basically, he paints what inspires him with love and devotion, and invites others to do the same.

Spring 2023 semester

American Don Perlis is a well known painter and a teacher with more than 35 years of experience. Don's class is open to beginners as well as advanced students. It is a class teaching the fundamentals of figurative painting. There will be a model available and posed in a setting. Students will have a deeper understanding of the process by the end of class.

Roberto (Steve) Gobesso
Roberto (Steve) Gobesso is a local Italian Calligraphy Artist, graphic designer and photographer. Steve’s experience in this discipline is distinguished with participation in group exhibitions in Italy Switzerland and South Korea.

Robert’s realist painting style is born of a love of old Dutch masters. Having spent most of his adult life in remote Australian landscapes, he has developed a mastery of landscapes. Robert is also a skilled portrait painter.
Robert also has an encyclopedic knowledge of technique and skills in Portraiture.

Ink on Paper - 4-8 Sept 2023
Andrew explores working directly from the imagination. This class is designed to allow you to experiment and lose your inhibitions about “correct“ image making and focus on the mind’s ability to find images that are personal and unique.
Acrylic painting - 11-15 Sept 2023
Charlotte’s classes are open to all participants wishing to learn from an established figure in the Australian Arts. Charlotte loves getting together with a class of people who are obsessed as she is about painting and beautiful seasonal produce.
Watercolour painting and drawing - 18-22 September 2023
This workshop is open to artists with an interest drawing and painting in watercolour and is suitable for those with drawing experience, however, beginners will be catered for. Deirdre is an internationally recognised watercolour artist with over 20 years’ experience, with a PhD (Natural History Illustration) from University of Newcastle, Australia.
Acrylic painting - 25-29 Sept 2023
Amanda Penrose Hart
In her course Amanda will provide insights as to how she gets started in a new environment, drawing and using graphite sticks and looking at composition.She will cover mark making and free drawing in the landscape using mixed media on paper. Students will later develop studies in paint, painting in layers, impasto and palette knife techniques. Amanda will then discuss your work with you up to that point and how to make changes.
All of our art teachers are professional artists with many years of art practice and exhibition histories. They have a wealth of knowledge that they are willing to share with you in a supportive and enjoyable environment. Your time spent with them is sure to be rewarding.
Our concierge service is provided by ArtEX- Italia, a local Association of art loving local enthusiasts made up of ex-pats and local artists. Through our concierge you will gain intimate knowledge of the local tourist ‘hot spots’ and the not-so-well-known sights that cater to your interests. This is in addition to the more essential matters for a comfortable stay.
Opportunities to Exhibit
At the conclusion of the class you will be invited to exhibit your work in a group exhibition of class graduates. Learning about exhibiting your work and the business of being an artist will be an opportunity that may well start you on a new life path.
You will meet local artists and experience true cultural exchange in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. Social events can lead to lasting friendships with local artists and create networks together. Todi has a vibrant artistic community of people who are passionate about their work.
