Art Class Description
This workshop is open to all levels of experience. Perfect for beginners!
David will focus on drawing and wood engraving, in which he will encourage participants to create a suite of engravings that capture their experience of the town of Todi and surrounds. On completion he will make (for everyone) a broadsheet using one small engraving from each participant resulting in an attractive souvenir of the workshop and Todi experience. David says no past art experience is required at all!
Wood engraving is an age-old relief print-making method used for creating small and highly detailed images. It was traditionally used to illustrate books with blocks being the same dimensions as the letterpress characters that formed the text. It is particularly well suited to achromatic graphic artworks with strong contrasts and areas of textured shadows. Ideal for book illustration, book plates, book covers and invitations or small prints.
At the end of the workshop students will be encouraged to exhibit one or more printed works either for sale or not in an exhibition of the work by the whole class. Local artists and supporters of Art Class Italy who will attend the exhibition with a commission payable on any sales going to the local gallery.
